A grounded, powerful take on the Monkey King, locked into a coiled stance while gripping his staff with intent. The dragon beneath him twists through the composition, adding movement and tension, while the surrounding smoke frames the piece without overpowering it. It feels heavy, controlled and ready — like a moment just before action.
Inspired by Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, a figure known for rebellion, strength and mastery. Often seen as chaotic in his early story, he evolves into something far more disciplined. The dragon beneath adds another layer — power, wisdom and something to be controlled rather than conquered.
This piece is about discipline over chaos. Raw ability sharpened into focus. Wukong here isn’t wild — he’s contained, deliberate, and fully aware of his strength. The dragon reinforces that idea — power beneath you, not controlling you.
Works best as a strong vertical piece — full sleeve, outer arm or thigh. Could also sit as a powerful centre-back composition. The flow naturally follows the body, with the staff and dragon pulling the eye through the full length of the design.
