After Care.
Why aftercare matters
You’ve just committed to art that sits on your skin for life. It’s not just a tattoo — it’s a ritual. To preserve sharp lines, deep blacks, and lasting detail, the way you care for your piece in the first few days makes all the difference.
The first 24 hours
I’ll wrap the tattoo immediately after we finish. Keep that wrap on for the full time I tell you (typically 2–4 hours).
After removing the wrap, gently wash the area with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, mild antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean towel.
Lightly apply a thin layer of aftercare balm (see suggested products below). Don’t glob it on — thin and even.
For the rest of the day, keep the area clean, avoid heavy sweating, and no sun exposure.
Days 2–7: Healing phase
Wash the tattoo 2–3 times per day with gentle soap; pat dry.
Continue applying the thin layer of balm 2–3 times daily or as the area feels dry.
Wear loose, clean clothing that doesn’t rub the tattoo.
Avoid soaking in baths, swimming pools or hot tubs.
Stay out of sunbeds and direct sunlight — UV kills pigment.
Days 8–30: Settling & long-term care
The tattoo will begin peeling and flaking — this is normal. Don’t pick or scratch.
After the peeling stops, switch to a good fragrance-free moisturiser to keep skin hydrated.
Use a high‐SPF sunblock once the area is fully healed to protect the ink from fading
Don’t ignore these warning signs
Persistent redness or swelling beyond 48 hours
Oozing of yellow/green discharge
Heat or throbbing in the area
Rash or severe itch
If any of these occur, contact me immediately.
