A brutal fusion of war and decay, this piece centres around a samurai helmet bound to a skull, with a horned creature emerging from within. Surrounded by chrysanthemum blooms and drifting smoke, it feels like something pulled from the aftermath of battle — where honour, death and spirit all collide. Clean linework keeps it sharp, while the composition carries a heavy, grounded weight.
Rooted in traditional Japanese symbolism, the kabuto represents the warrior’s identity — strength, discipline and status. The skull beneath strips that away, exposing mortality. Chrysanthemums, often tied to longevity and the imperial family, bring contrast — life against death, beauty against brutality.
This one speaks to legacy and what’s left behind. The idea that no matter how powerful or disciplined you are, everything returns to the same place. There’s also a strong energy of inner demons — the creature within the helmet hinting at what sits beneath control and honour. It’s raw, honest and a bit unforgiving.
Works best as a statement piece — upper arm, outer thigh or chest panel. Could also sit heavy in the centre of the back or be built into a larger Japanese composition. Strong, bold placement where it can hit straight on.
